My Review
HOLY. CRAP. ON. A. CRACKER. MAN DOWN! MAN DOWN!! I don’t really know how one puts into words what Jay does to us when she writes. She reaches into your heart, pulls on all of the strings; then she shoves them in and stitches them up; but then does this on repeat until the book is over. Between laughter and sadness, I’m not sure I have tears left to cry!
There is something so amazingly beautiful about how Jay writes. She knows the perfect way to write emotions. While reading Leo, we go through every single emotion, MULTIPLE times. I absolutely adore how we went through Leo and Mia’s lives from when they were only 13 to the very end of the book. We got to truly experience with them all of it. From bullying, to things that we silently suffer through, puberty, young love, all of it! Now only did she take us through all of this, she held our hand and gave us some tissues to get through it with her.
My brain doesn’t work like most, I don’t forever remember characters after I’ve read them. So, to be honest, Leo wasn’t at the forefront of my brain, BUT the Prestons were. Seeing this family together again definitely brought back so many memories. I really loved how we got to relive some of these memories, even if not good memories. I always love to see them through someone else’s eyes. Leo is so special throughout all of this. He isn’t the same as the other boys, not that any of them are truly the same, but he was definitely different. He carried his own tune.
And then Mia, poor, precious Mia. This girl went through it all. These boys were ruthless. Ruthless with hate and love. She was really put through the ringer, but she could dish as good as she was given. My heart pulled in so many ways for Mia. There were a lot of things that I could relate to with her, and it broke my heart even more. And then knowing that Leo was in the background and almost helpless. H.E.A.R.T.B.R.O.K.E.N.
With all of the bad, there was so much good in this book. There was so much love and passion. Passion for life, for love, for family, for everything. Seeing characters like Papa, Tammy, Holden and eventually Joseph, it was all so special. Bringing another special family into the Preston crew was really amazing. I know I’ve said this before, but it was just so damn beautiful. Every inch of it. It was long, and it was truly amazing.
Come along for the ride, buckle up, grab some tissues and enjoy β€
