Nineteen years ago, on a dark stormy night, everything in Lucas Smith’s life came crashing down around him. In the blink of an eye, his childhood was gone and he was forced to step up for his little brother, Clay. They are the only family each other has left and there isn’t anything Lucas won’t do to protect that bond.
Quinn Dawson knows a thing or two about loss and family. After her parents’ death when she was a child and the passing of her grandmother only a year before, her sister and daughter are all she has left and nothing is more important to her.
When a truck runs a red light, it brings Quinn and Lucas together and for the first time in his life, Lucas considers a whole new meaning of the word family but nothing is as simple as it seems.
A chance meeting tears open old wounds and thrusts Quinn and Lucas into turmoil, bigger than either of them have ever known.
Can they survive the scars of the past or will they both lose the only family they have left?
A.M. Myers currently lives in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina with her husband and their two children. She has been writing since the moment she learned how to and even had a poem published in the sixth grade but the idea of writing an entire book always seemed like a daunting task until this story got stuck in her head and just wouldn’t leave her alone. And now, she can’t imagine ever stopping. A.M. writes gripping romantic suspense novels that will have you on the edge of your seat until the end.
When she’s not writing, you can find her hanging out with her kids or pursuing other artistic ventures, such as photography or painting.
Ice blue eyes, full of fear, turn toward me as the little blonde behind the wheel gasps for air, clawing at her seat belt frantically. It’s like one of the damn movies Iris always used to rent when I was a kid – everything seems to stand still as our gazes connect and something I can’t quite describe smacks into me, knocking me off balance. It’s like a punch to the gut and everything around me blurs because all I can see is the angel in front of me.
Clearing his throat, he smiles and my heart skips a beat. It’s terrifying but I have to admit that there is something about Lucas that gets to me. It would be so easy to fall for him if I allowed myself to but I don’t know if that’s something I could do.
“I’m really glad I met you, Lucas,” I whisper, my heart racing and his smile is blinding as he reaches over and brushes his thumb over my cheek. A blush creeps up my own.
“You just read my mind, babe.”
As soon as they drive away, a deep aching sob tears through me and I sink to my knees, gasping for air. Tears pour down my face and my hands shake as I press them against my racing heart and pain overwhelms me. It feels like a thousand dark hands, reaching up from the depths of hell. They grip my clothes, my arms, my legs, fighting desperately to drag me back into darkness and finish me off.
And this time, I might just let them.
