Book Chat: Reckless

Hello my loves!!! I’ve been dying to do this book chat since I read the book, but life has been a wee bit intense (I’ll be talking more about that here soon, I have been formulating a new plan for the blog <3). Reckless was my second favorite read of 2018. I haven’t gotten to read many new books so I don’t have but two so far, BUT this one was FANTASTIC!!!! I am so excited to share my thoughts!!

Title: Reckess

Author: Lex Martin

For the record, I’m
not going to hook up with my boss.

I’m a lot of
things—a screwup, a basket case, a flunky. But when I take a nanny job to be
near my pregnant sister, I swear to myself I’ll walk the straight and narrow,
which means I cannot fall for my insanely hot boss.

I don’t want to be
tempted by that rugged rancher. By his chiseled muscles or southern charm or
the way he snuggles his kids at bedtime. Ethan Carter won’t get the key to my
heart, no matter how much I want him.

Between us, she’s
the last thing I need as I finalize my hellish divorce.

What sane man trying
to rebuild his life wants a hot nanny with long, sexy hair, curves for miles,
and a smart mouth? A perfectly kissable, pouty mouth that I shouldn’t notice.

My focus is on my
kids and my ranch, not the insufferable siren who sleeps in the room next to
mine. It doesn’t matter that she wins over my kids in a heartbeat or runs my
life better than I do. Tori Duran is the one woman I can’t have and shouldn’t
want, no matter how much I crave her.

This is definitely one of my favorite books so far this year! I’ve never read anything by Lex Martin and it makes me so sad I waited so long!!

I love the story of Tori and how she’s trying to turn her life around. And then we have Ethan, who just wants a new normal for his family. Really it was just so perfect the two of them!! I love how great Tori is with her his kids, she’s just so natural. She knows just when not help them and how. I was also so surprised at Ethan, how much he really wanted Tori to be a part of their every day lives. And then we have Logan, oh how I love Logan. He’s the PIA brother who sometimes helps and sometimes makes things worse. He’s just the best. There were so many good twists in this story. Allison as an ex was someone who I was so frustrated with, and Jamie was just ridiculous. These two really made the story so much more interesting and really kept us on our toes.

Then we have the end of this book. It is just so amazing and really complete. That’s the best part about a good epilogue! I love when we really feel like the story is complete. Of course I feel like almost every book can go on, but this one had a pretty amazing ending! I’m sure there’s so much more I can say, but I don’t want to give it away =]

Book Chat Time!

Tori: I felt so much for Tori throughout this whole book. She had such a rough past that she was trying to overcome, she was so brave! Hearing what that d-bag Jamie did to her and the insecurities caused her was so angering. I hate when men have so much power over women, but I think we’ve all been there. Thank God for her sister. After hearing about her childhood, it makes sense that she was a rebellious college kid. I was so happy to see that her sister was so active in her lift after hearing how her parents treated her growing up.

With all of that being said, Tori as a nanny for Ethan was just amazing. I loved that when she was “interviewing” with him she instantly took to the kids. AND she was all about giving him some lip for being such a grump. From that moment I knew this story was going too be fantastic. There was no way Ethan wasn’t going to hire her! Seeing her with these kids is the most adorable thing EVER! It’s like she instantly knew how to parent or nanny. Almost makes me wonder if it’s because she didn’t have parents?

The of course we have her romance with Ethan. I knew from the moment she met him, there’d be no way she could resist. There was such an instant attraction, and I think that Logan and Kat knew there would be. Her having the past she did, and him being the person he is, it’s just so perfect. Even though it seemed perfect, I loved how their romance wasn’t. I hated how insecure she was and so closed off. As if she didn’t trust him or herself. She didn’t want to let herself live.

Ethan: This man. This man went through hell with his ex Allison. I couldn’t believe how she could just up and leave, then try and make his life hell. What type of woman just gives up her kids? All of the shit he went through with her, and then almost being “stuck” with the ranch, it’s amazing he turned out as good as he did. So with all of that, we need to talk about his insecurities. He had just as many as Tori, but they were so different. He wanted a nanny, but he didn’t want another “mom” for his children. He was also reluctant because of his attraction to Tori. He didn’t think he should/could move on so quickly. I could tell right away that he never truly loved Allison though, I think that’s why  he fell so hard for Tori. Their love was real.

His past had a lot to do with how he reacted to Tori. He was almost forced into the life he had; because he was a father, and now single-handly responsible for these children, he couldn’t live his life. I loved that his mother tried to help, but there’s only so much an elderly parent could do. When Logan and Kat brought Tori in, I loved his reaction to her. He noticed right away that she was actually good with his kids, but he still was a grump. He knew there was an attraction and put that in his way.

Their Relationship: The blossoming of their relationship was so awesome. I love how Ethan came out of his shell around Tori. I can’t imagine he was ever like this with Allison. It was almost like he was free around Tori. I love that their first “coupling” was in the back of his pick-up and that he actually went after her at that party. He was just so damn dedicated and he truly cared about her. Logan being the instigator, I can’t believe he didn’t noticed that before Ethan had to out-right tell him. I think they came in a bit strong through, I love that she took a step back for him though. So much was going on with Allison, and she knew that wouldn’t help things. They had some crazy good restraint while the divorce was finalizing! And how the kids reacted to them being together was so cute!!! His laugher is the most adorable thing ever, and her asking if she was his girlfriend was just too damn cute.

Their past realllllly kicked them on their asses at the end of this book. They both weren’t that great at expressing their feelings and they both kept things to themselves. And I couldn’t believe how Allison reacted during the kids party, and the fact that Ethan actually knew Jamie was astounding. That whole chapter my mouth just hung open in shock! OK… i’m getting ahead of myself here!!! Let’s go back to before the party. I was so sad that Tori just left when his mom came home, and that she stayed away. I get that they needed some space, but she took it so extreme. AND HE LET HER!!! So when the party came around, I was so mad at him for not noticing how she was reacting and hiding. How did he not realize that Allison was pretending to be his wife again?!?! Men can be so damn dense. Then the fight happened.. OH…EM….GEEEEEEE. I about died. I could not believe that Jamie treated her so awful, and that Ethan just let it happen! He just let her get drug through the mud in front of EVERYONE. Yes, it was just Jamie’s wife and Allison, but Allison definitely didn’t need to be there. I would have punched him in the face right then if I were Ethan.

The aftermath was intense. When Tori had to help Kat have her baby at the side of the road I was totally cheering her on. I also love that Ethan was there to help. He really surprised me then. I was wondering why he didn’t come directly to her, but I understand that his son had gotten hurt. The timing was just so great. (Lex, you did SO good with the timing of things in this book. I was CONSTANTLY on my toes!). I also love that this crazy event really helped Tori’s backbone. Her parents were actually saying praises about her and Ethan was there every step. I was so happy when she pulled him aside and handed his ass to him. I was even more happy with I found out that he beat the shit of out Jamie.

The End: Ya’ll know I’m a sucker for a good epilogue. This one was one of my top 10 favorites! There are so many books where I’m like, damn I really need more! Sometimes you are just left hanging or the end is wrapped so quickly you have no idea how it just ended. Not Lex, not in Reckless. I was left SO satisfied! Sure I could totally go for another book (I’ve told her this too…), but for the story of Ethan and Tori I felt pretty damn satisfied.

Sadly this was my first Lex book, now I’m going to have to go back and read everything I can get my grubby little hands on!!!!!

I hope you all have an amazing weekend and that you TRULY enjoyed this book chat ❤
