Book Chat: Sex In The Sticks

Hello my loves!!! I am super excited about this series, I hope you liked my last book chat. This time I’m going to chat about Sex In The Sticks, the first book in the Love Hurts series by Sawyer Bennett.

Synopsis:

Valentine French may be the sassiest dating columnist in New York City, but the abundance of metrosexuals in her adopted metropolis is seriously cramping her style. Where are the beefy all-American boys? Hoping to find some inspiration, Val heads to Alaska, where the men outnumber the women fifteen to one and wrestle grizzly bears for sport. Or so she can only imagine. Suddenly the most eligible bachelorette in a town full of horny lumberjacks, Val is writing her best columns ever. But if she doesn’t get her nose out of her laptop, she just might miss out on Mr. Right.

Logan Burke is the sheriff of the little podunk town that Val finds so charmingly backward. He’s not that different from the guys she’s using for her little experiment; it’s just that one date would never be enough for Logan. As he listens to Val complain about love over beers in the local tavern, he realizes that she can’t see the forest for the trees. Because if she would ever give up her Prada bags and fourteen-dollar martinis, Logan would give her the only luxury that matters: his heart.

My Review:

I couldn’t believe how much I loved this book! This is the first book I’ve read from Sawyer that wasn’t part of her hockey series, and I’m so glad I read it! Valentine was a girl who was so different than I thought she would be, really different than most leading characters. Then we have Logan, he is just as unique but in a much different way. He screams home town and she screams New York, it was a match made in heaven from the beginning!

I love every little thing about this small town, from the way they gossip, to how close they all are, and how much they help each other. It was such a good place for the setting of this story. The setting of this small town really does a lot for their chemistry. I think without the setting of this small town I don’t think that their love would have been so unique. There were so many things that if they were in a bigger/different city the scenario might not have come up.

Can’t wait to see who is next in the Love Hurts series!

****DISCLAIMER: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS****

Valentine: From the very beginning I loved Valentine! Yes, she’s rich; she may even be a tad bit snobby, but comparatively she’s so normal! When she’s talking about all of these guys with money that she’s dating and how boring she finds them, I have a little hope for her. I have hope that she isn’t that stereotype that we all think of when we think rich people. When she got to the little town in Alaska I wasn’t sure if I was right about her, she was NOT dressed for Alaska, and that really had me chuckling. Also, I love that she’s a blogger!! I thought it was so ironic that she’s a blogger about her dating life and how much her family hated it. It’s the last thing you’d think of someone with money doing.

Logan: Logan is really everything you want in a small town sheriff. He’s hot, he’s sexy and he’s single! These three things were enough for me to fall head over heels for this guy from the moment he decided to help Val. He didn’t have to help her, but he did. He also didn’t have to take her shopping for clothes, but he did. He was just so darn sweet!!!

Chemistry: The chemistry these two had was so good!!! They had smoldering looks almost from day one, it was so inevitable that they would end up the way they did. Although, I Really didn’t expect things to peak the way they did! It seemed like everything really were crawling at a snails pace and then BOOM instalove. What these two had was so strong!!!

That slippery slopes & valleys: So the first slope was when Logan decided to listen to the townies about Val setting up dates. I was so upset at this!!! How dare he just believe what people said! In a small town especially, I can only imagine how twisted tales can get going from person to person. From that slope though, I love how he woo’d her back. Logan really knows how to get a girl’s attention, that’s for sure! Then slippery slope numero dos. The day he found out that she’d blogged about him. I was upset about this, and she hadn’t written about me. I can’t imagine how he’d felt, but at the same time, I think he way over reacted. I know there’s going to be some initial hurt, but talk it out! If he had truly read her blog, he would have noticed that she stopped talking about him the moment they started a relationship. To be honest though, she should have deleted the post about the size of his penis and things like that. That may have been a little too far.

The aftermath: I felt so sad for Val when she went home. She really had started making a life for herself in Alaska and she had no clue. I also love that his sister helped convince her to go back to him. Really, I loved everything about this. I loved how she decided not to, not only move back, but to buy a house. She decided to a buy a house that she got to fix with her own two hands. That amount of endurance and commitment alone proved so much about her love for Logan. What I didn’t like was how long he held back. He could have at least tried to be friends with her or talk to her. The best part? How she lured him to the bar. This had me howling with laughter!!

Overall: I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THIS BOOK!!!! I read this until I was finished, there was no stopping for me. I decided that I had to keep reading, who needs sleep?? I CANNOT Wait until the next book in this series! I’m so curious to see if it is going to be someone from Alaska, someone from New York, or nothing related. Either way, WHEN AM I GETTING IT? LOL

Goodbye for now and have a great rest of your week!!

Angie
