Hello my loves!!!! 2016 has been soooo special to me and I’m so excited that I got to share it with all of you! Did anyone have any reading goals for 2016? I used the GoodReads challenge and my goal was 180 books, I made it within hours!!! Somehow I got my list down to 15!
1) Ink Exposed
I cannot say enough how much I love this series and how much I love Carrie Ann’s Ryan. This whole series has these handsome, bearded, inked and alpha men, and that is right up my alley! I was really excited to see where she took us with Alex and I was super excited to see him paired with Tabby! There has been so much that happened with him that we really didn’t get to see, that we only got to get sneak peaks of throughout the other 5 books. It’s about time he got his own story! BUT now I’m sooo curious about Storm and Wes! I really thought that Tabby would end up with one of them, but looking back I love that they are more the ‘big brother’ type to her.
Alex is someone who I always wondered about, he was the only Montgomery that you didn’t see in the picture the whole time; It was almost as if he didn’t want to be in the picture the whole time. Hearing his story and hearing everything that he went through prior to this book was so heart breaking. Having a family full of addicts in one form or another this story really hit my heart. Addiction is something that is hard to cope with and something that I’ve always made sure to keep certain things at arms length so it didn’t become a problem for me. Knowing Alex’s backstory now makes me respect him so much more! I can’t spoil this at all with what happened, but jesus he had it rough. This family is so close knit, that I’m really surprised his entire family didn’t know what was going on. I’m very thankful for him that he and Tabby got together when they did. He really need her in his life.
And Tabby, we have seen a decent bit of her up until now, we never truly got to know much about her. We found out throughout the previous stories that she, like Decker and Luc, was a sort of ‘adopted’ Montgomery, BUT we didn’t really know how she fit this puzzle. One of the first things in this book was Alex thinking how much her mother wanted her to be a part of their family in a real sense. I find it so ironic that it didn’t end the way he was thinking that it might, in fact it didn’t end in the way that any of us thought it might. She was such a rock for Alex throughout this entire book, and he really helped her to grow too. I also find it super entertaining that they are the only ones that call each other by their full name, it seems to be so backward.
I CANNOT wait to see what she has in store for the Twins next!!!
From the beginning Jennifer had me absolutely hooked. The very first scene we are put right in the middle of a situation and it just makes you think and wonder. Your brain feels like it might explode because you want to know what’s happening. THAT makes for a great book, THAT makes you want to keep reading. She did such a good job of enticing her reader with this one. From the very beginning I was going to beg for more, I need to know what going on and where the story was going to take us.
Now I’m not a reader that predicts what’s going to happen, because I honestly don’t want to know. I want to be surprised, but I think even if you had guessed what might happen, you would 100% be wrong. This entire book was like that. As soon as you think you have it figured out, you turn a corner, and then another corner.
Kathleen is a woman that is so admirable, and when she falls for someone at work you almost feel bad. She’s the daughter to the owner of the company, it can’t possibly look good to be dating an employee, but at the same time, can you help you fall for? No, no you can’t. This is how her scenario starts. There’s a line where you ask, can I do this? She crossed that line so many times in this book, that you instantly connect with her and want to help her make these decisions. And Jack, he’s such an amazing person. An amazing dad and friend, it’s as if he were created for Kathleen. But when tragedy happens, what does he do? What most men do, he doesn’t think. He’s another character that I just wanted to shake at some points. But their interactions still continued to surprise me.
One of my favorite parts about this book is how Kathleen is persevering, which would be incredibly hard. She’s persevering and trying to mend her relationship with her family. All of this is just icing on the cake in this book. Everything about it has you begging for more, especially the ending. I cannot wait for book two to see where Jennifer takes us with the story of Kathleen and Jack ❤
3) How To Be Someone Else
There are so many things I want to say about this book, but there’s so much that can be said that would give away too much.
I have a soft spot for Penny, no one deserves to go through what she went through. Parents going through a divorce is so hard, and in Penny’s case I think it is 10 times worse. How she deals with it though? That drove me insane. In this book I loved Penny just as much as a I hated Penny. She was so insightful and real, but at the same time I hated that. The realness of this book was earth shattering. Typically when reading you feel like you are in a fantasy land. Rachel did such a good job capturing the essence of this story that it’s almost too real. For this reason it is absolutely one of my favorite books of the year. I could not put it down. I actually would sneak and read a little bit here and there while I was at work so I could finish it.
Now Alex, her best friend. He’s the best friend that every girl needs, but how do you not fall for that? Every girl needs her best friend and her lover to be one person, that’s the best part about a relationship. Yet, these two are in the friend zone. I felt for him throughout this whole story. It would really be hard to see your best friend go through all of this turmoil and not be able to help. To not have your help be accepted. Sometimes you just need to be there for someone, even if it means doing something your uncomfortable with, and that was Alex. He was there. And for this reason, 80% of this book I wanted to absolutely shake Penny.
I cannot wait for you guys to read this and see what you all think. I loved the whole book so much!
4) More Than A Memory
I’m at the point where words almost can’t describe how much I love Marie, and how much her work continues to take my breath away. More Than A Memory is just another reason to absolutely love this woman! Her work is SO phenomenal and perfect! With that said this book is a good bit different from other’s she’s written, a bit softer. I like this softer side of her.
The amount of emotions that are emoted from this book are endless. You have to be someone who can take on those emotions and be ready to live, feel, and breathe these emotions to read this book. I personally FLOVE emotional books and I’m finding that Marie is becoming the emotional queen! Olivia has such a profound past, that you almost need to take a step back and re-evaluate when you find out all of it. With that re-evaluation I had so much more respect for her than I did from the beginning. And Bryson, he is so beyond perfect. From the beginning he seems like such a sweetheart and then when you get to know him better, you fall down the rabbit hole with Olivia. How can you not? He’s so perfect and he’s the perfect person to help her become herself again. Olivia is a caterpillar that needs to bloom, and he helps to sew her cocoon. That makes him SUCH a beautiful human being and such an amazing man and partner.
Thank you Marie for making such an amazing book ❤
5) The Fabulist
I cannot express how much I absolutely love Dawn. This book was everything I could have hoped for. When I saw the cover I was immediately excited to see what the book was about. After reading it, it was even better!
I can totally relate to Sam, she’s spunky and confident. She’s such a great friend to Carmen. I love that they even each other out so well. And Carmen, she’s so loyal and really knows how to help Sam cheer up and aid her. The whole idea of being on a game show is something I would never dream of doing, but I love how Dawn put it into a book. There are so many awful reality tv shows and I think she did a great job making the situation one that people can relate to and wouldn’t hate.
I really loved her connection to the show through Hogan though! Hogan was the kind of guy that I think most girls would fan themselves over, but Sam was the one that had the guts to tell him. Who could resist spunk like hers? The story of Sam and Hogan was amazing. I was sucked in from the beginning.
Without giving too much away, if you like minor drama, real life people, and forbidden romance, this is 100% the book for you!
6) Dare to Dream
I could not wait to start this book and I couldn’t wait to see where Lacey and Kade’s story took us. Lacey has had so much to deal with between school, her mother/sister’s murders and her PSTD that I couldn’t wait to see what came next. Kade and his brothers are so protective of her that I knew she’d be OK. There’s so much more emotion and turmoil in this book. We see many ups and downs and we get to see her relationship with the supporting characters really grow. We also get to see another side of her father and her past. The best part of this book is we get a really in-depth view of Kade’s feelings. We see so much of his side of the feelings that are going on and it’s so awesome! It’s nice to see inside of the man’s brain and to know that the woman isn’t the only one feeling so many emotions. He is such a true alpha too, he’s so protective and loves her so fiercely.
After all of the trouble that Lacey and Kade had the end of this story the ending was amazing. This was the great ending to an amazing story. The range of emotion and twists and turns, it was great!
7) Taking Shots
OH EM GEEEEE I could NOT stop reading/listening to this book!!!! I love hockey books so much but this one was so fantastic!!! I LOVE that Elli was a girl who wasn’t confident and I love that Shea is an emotion man. These aren’t things you find to often in books, especially when it comes to sports books. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite sports reads ever!!! I cannot wait to keep reading this series!
I loved Elli so much in this, she great so much during her relationship with Shea. She’s such a relatable character too that you can’t help but love her. And Shea, he’s so darn adorable!!!! He’s such a great person! The perfect uncle, the perfect boyfriend, the perfect hockey player. PERFECT.
Can’t wait to see who is next
8) Never Back Down
I really loved Rachel in When Sparks Fly, she’s so witty and fun! And seeing what little banter we did with Zander I knew it would be hot! This book was so HOT HOT HOT!!!! From the beginning the chemistry that the two of them had was explosive! They were truly meant to be with each other. She helped him so much with his personal life, and he helped her break out of her “barbie” shell some! In addition to this being Hot AF, it really surprised me!!! There were a few plot twists, one MAJOR, and they were freaking fantastic!!!! I CANNOT wait to see what he writes next ❤ ❤
9) Filthy English
I knew I was going to love Dax’s story, I knew I would love it so much. He had become such an important person in Elizabeth’s life that I knew he was a bad guy with a bad rap. Then we meet Remi and we knew there was a back story. Their story together was so much more than I imagined. Their chemistry was so perfect. All of it was so perfect. That’s all I can say, I’m still on cloud 9
10) Stadium of Lights
I Completely devoured this book, it was so good!!! Tia is such a great writer, I just don’t want to stop reading! I was this way with Draw Play too, I just can’t get enough. I can kind of relate to Abby so I really liked her, I like how she over came everything and is doing what she loves. She isn’t afraid to be one of the guys either. And Max, he seems like this playboy, but the moment Abby comes around he changes. Their interactions together are so strong and emotion filled, it’s really enticing. I love that we get to see a little sports action too, sports books are my absolute favorites.
Tia, keep writing like this and you will have some really happy fans! I love your work and I can’t wait for more ❤ ❤ <?
Oh My God. This is the first book of Aly’s that I’ve read and I am so addicted. I went into this read without any premise of the story and man am I glad that I did.
The entire book I was on edge wondering what is coming next. I could not get enough of Elisabeth and Roman and everything going on around them. Their story is so enticing and they really pull you in with their story. And if that isn’t enough there is some crime and drama that sucks you in even more. Plot twist after plot twist, literally, have my begging for more. There is so much to take from this book that I can’t even explain in words the feelings that I’m left with.
Thank you Aly for writing such an amazing piece
12) The Perfect Hope
I truly adored listening to this series, and Nora really left he best for last!
This book was really everything I hoped it would be and more! I knew from the time they met that Hope and Ryder’s relationship was going to be special, and man was it!
Hope really got to start over and make a new life for herself, but I think a lot of that was because of her reaction to Ryder. From the moment she saw him, back in book one, we knew there was this crazy spark. Lizzie really had fun with these two, it made their story that much more entertaining. I loved seeing Ryder fall like he did, he was always so gruff I knew his story would truly be special
I absolutely adored every minute of this book. Laney was so adorable and really had no idea how amazing she was, Dane was the opposite of what I expected of him and Evan sort of disappointed me.
Laney, from the very beginning, had me hooked. She was the tomboy with an attitude, and who doesn’t love that? And Evan, he was the tomboys BFF. Their story was one that really grabs you, and I really excited that they live happily ever after. BUT SE really put a wrench in our works. When two people know nothing but each other, when they move out of that realm I can’t even imagine how hard it would be to function. Laney and Evan really had that problem, they didn’t know how to live without each other, until they did. Laney really took me by surprise when she went to college and in the best ways. And Evan didn’t, he really disappointed me. I don’t think I ever really rooted for him, but I was still sad to see that he wasn’t who I thought he was.
Now Dane, and the rest of her new friends, I loved them so much! I loved everything about them including how they helped to change and evolve Laney. I CANNOT wait to keep reading!!!
14) The Spire
This Book…. This book broke my heart and picked up the pieces and put it back together. That’s the best way to describe the story of Erin. Everything from this story really grabbed at me, Kate didn’t leave an emotion at bay. She really knows how to throw them all out there and wants to leave you wondering how you should feel. I really loved how Kate wrote the prologue and the rest of the story, she did this one a little differently and it REALLY draws you in! I love so much that Nick is a part of Erin’s life, I always wondered how he fit and I am so excited that it’s her. The insight to her relationship with her family is so amazing.
This is making me BEG for more Riley! I CANNOT wait until we see him again ❤
My favorite of the year:
15, Until Harry
his is the first book I’ve read from LA Casey and now I’m an instant fan!!! This book was absolutely everything I love about reading and had all of the content I love in a book! This is BY FAR my favorite read of the year, going to have to be one of my top 10 favorite reads EVER!
From the beginning I felt so bad for Lane, I could tell she was devastated by the death of her uncle. Right away you know there’s something going on with someone at home but you have no clue what. Harry seemed like the perfect uncle and really made you miss him just from going through the loss with her. LA was great with helping to convey the feelings of her characters, I honestly felt like I was right there with them greaving. Kale, oh Kale, he is the best “hero” a girl could ask for. He’s the best friend, the “brother-like” figure, and he’s hot! What is not to love? My heart broke for him and Lane throughout this entire novel and I felt so much for both of them.
I can’t say anymore without giving details away, so I’m just going to say YOU MUST BUY THIS! ❤ ❤ ❤
Let’s hope I find reads jut as great in 2017!!!! Make sure to check out my favorites from the first half of 2016 here!
