Hi Guys!! I hope you all are having a great start to your weekend! Before reading this book I was already a big fan of Melissa’s. I’ve started the Love series and there was nothing about that series that I didn’t absolutely love. This book, is the exact same way. At the beginning of this book I wasn’t really sure which direction Melissa was going to take this. I honestly hadn’t read the synopsis about the book, I just knew because she wrote it that I would read it.
The character development that Melissa has is just tremendous. By the time I was on chapter 6 I felt like I was right there with Dax and Beck. Beck, oh how I adore this man. In the beginning I thought he might crumble a little, he really wasn’t sure of himself and where he stood with Dax. And Dax, the poor guy. Being a war vet would be hard, but their whole relationship, nothing had been easy. I could see how the two of them struggled so much. And I love the fact that it took Dax helping a fellow Vet to make him put his own life into perspective. Seeing Dax and Beck work through their past and find how much they love each other was one of the most uplifting things to read.
Another thing I really loved about this book is how well it flowed. There wasn’t a moment where it slowed down and you were thinking “come on already” and It was never too fast for me to not get what was happening. She had the perfect mix of anticipation and understanding in how she wrote this novel. This really is also a pretty bold topic for a book. This is the first book I’ve read about a homosexual couple being a family, and it was done so well! There was never a time were I thought, how weird that this is two men. No, all I saw was to amazing fathers to this amazing little girl. Their love and appreciation for each other and their family was the absolute best.
Now I need to go back and read some more of her work!!!
Now go out there and get On Solid Ground and On Higher Ground!!!
Have a great weekend!!
