The Epilogue, the other love of my life

Hi Everyone!!! How is everyone’s first week of spring going? I have to say, although we had a mild winter in the north, I’M GLAD IT’S OVER!!! Now that it’s officially spring I definitely am feeling that itch… time to open the windows and start

Now, onto happier, less OCD topics =D. I finished up a few books this week and two of them had AMAZING epilogues! These made me realize just how much I love an epilogue. If a book is not part of a series, I  feel like a book is complete without one. Some of the best epilogues are the fairytale ending to the HEA (Happily Ever After) books, these are always so perfect and make the heart happy. Others tend to give you a little bit better of a perspective or in depth insight to how the characters ended up where they were, which is my favorite! I had both of these examples in my reads this week.

So, onto this weeks reads! Both of these were pretty epic and last minute. I remembered (on Sunday evening) that I’ doing a group read with a group i’m in with Marie James on Roomhate by Penelope Ward on Thursday this week, and my friend Kati and I decided to start reading Corrupt by Penelopy Douglas. I absolutely adored both of these reads and both books took me to very different places.

Let’s start with Corrupt. This is a book that I’ve been dying to read and just haven’t gotten around to it. I have to say, after reading this, I’m so upset that I haven’t read sooner! AND this will 100% be on my re-read list! The plot of this book completely hooked me. Not only do the chapters alternate POV (point-of-view) between Rika and Michael, but they also go back and forth from the present to three years ago. I can’t say I’ve ever had a book do that and it was so intriguing!! This really helped to keep my attention and constantly have me begging to find out more.  Here’s the Goodreads synopsis

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.”

I read this book with a friend and we were constantly texting each other saying “OMG did you see what just happened” and “I can’t wait to find out what happened!” This book was definitely dark, but there was this underlying current in it that screamed that these characters somehow were in love. This is one of my favorite types of plots. BUT, why I’m talking about this now, the Epilogue ❤ I know I can’t say too much because some of you might actually want to read this at some point ( PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO!), BUT this one was EPIC! Rika and Michael have always had an odd relationship and the epilogue actually tells you why they have the relationship they do and also tells you when their turning point was. This is something that you almost never get, it was that “ah ha” moment! It made me, and Kati, love this story so much more!!! If you don’t already own this, GO GET IT NOW!!! Here’s the link for Goodreads so you can get it wherever you buy your books:

Now for the happier book, Roomhate by Penelope Ward. This book was is about two friends who were traumatically separated and then reunited by someone who knew they belonged together. I love HEA stories, and this was definitely one of them. This story was completely in the POV of Amelia, which was a nice contrast to Corrupt. There are some parts of this book where Amelia and Justin go back to their childhood, and these parts are so special. It’s like you get to go into a little portal and get a Birdseye view of what happened to make them who they are today. Here’s a synopsis from Goodreads:

“Sharing a summer house with a hot-as-hell roommate should be a dream come true, right?

Not when it’s Justin…the only person I’d ever loved…who now hates me.

When my grandmother died and left me half of the house on Aquidneck Island, there was a catch: the other half would go to the boy she helped raise.

The same boy who turned into the teenager whose heart I broke years ago.

The same teenager who’s now a man with a hard body and a hardass personality to match.

I hadn’t seen him in years, and now we’re living together because neither one of us is willing to give up the house.

The worst part? He didn’t come alone.

I’d soon realize there’s a thin line between love and hate. I could see through that smug smile. Beneath it all…the boy is still there. So is our connection.

The problem is…now that I can’t have Justin, I’ve never wanted him more.”

Justin is the guy that every girl would love to be with and Amelia seems to be the girl everyone wishes they could be. And one of my favorite people is Bea, she comes later on and I can’t say too much but she 100% steals you heart! This is such a cute story of two people coming together when they should never have parted to begin with and it just makes your insides tingles. Now the Epilogue of this story wasn’t as “profound” as Corrupt, but it was a different style all together. This one has a preview of what life is like after the story. Also, it is in the POV of Justin. I love when authors do this!! I like to get a little glimpse into the eyes of the men and this was a perfect one. It shows them only a year down the road, but that is what makes it perfect. It doesn’t skip over too much, and also tells you a little more of how it continues. So once you’ve read Corrupt and want something a little sweeter, pick up Roomhate ❤ Here’s the link from Goodreads to find Roomhate to purchase:

To finish up my babling for the week (maybe!) I am currently reading/listening the Love series by Melissa Collins. I wasn’t aware that this was a series, and now I’m hooked and there are FIVE BOOKS!  You all know how I love my series!

Until next time, goodnight everyone!!
